I was entering my 40th year, and a mini mid-life crisis, when a friend lured me to compete in the May 2006 Mareeba to Chillagoe Wheelbarrow Race. I engaged Chrissy to train me three times a week, with a clear mandate that it would only be for two months. Five years later, I still meet Chrissy twice a week, I have entered the Wheelbarrow Race every year since; and in 2010 our training led me to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro (the world’s highest free standing mountain at 5985 metres) in Tanzania. My next challenge will be the Cairns to Cooktown Hospital Foundation cycle ride in September 2012. Now I am an everyday mum of two, a business owner and by no means an ultra-fit woman, but having the commitment of Chrissy waiting for me two mornings a week has turned my life around. I find that I am more focused, much fitter, with higher energy levels – and for the first time – love exercising. She’ll tell you I still complain ... but I feel fantastic afterwards!
